Thank you for your interest in outdoor ministry at Ewalu! Our summer staff are 18 or older, with one or more years of college preferred. Serving in any role at Ewalu is a unique, powerful opportunity - read below to learn more.

Basic qualifications are a Christian commitment, desire to share faith in Christ, love of serving children and young people, and an enjoyment of the outdoors.

  
Variety   As a camp counselor at Ewalu, you experience a different program each week - based on where you feel the strongest calling to serve! Rather than being with one age or program for the entire summer, you could be with a group of elementary kids in a cabin one week... then whitewater rafting with high schoolers the next. Your interests, energies and skills help determine where you can be the most inspired to serve. Here, your weekly preferences are important for just this reason. You will be trained by experienced staff, pastors and other dynamic speakers in outdoor ministry to prepare you.

This summer could be your opportunity to see how God's love acts powerfully through Christian community... and to connect this Christian community with the world. Come and see! 

Employment   Camp Counselors serve here May 28 - August 11, and Coordinators from May 25 - August 11. Summer staff receive 11 days of paid training. Midsummer break is June 30 - July 6. Friday nights through Sundays at noon is regularly time off. Compensation includes room and board, a weekly salary of $200 or more, incredible adventures, lifelong friends - and real life opportunities to positively impact the lives of youth, forever.

Ewalu Bible Camp

Ewalu is located in the beautiful wooded hills of northeastern Iowa. Ewalu offers 18 unique summer programs for youth in grades 2-12. Campers stay in cabins, teepees, covered wagons, tents or houseboats. Adventure trips include backpacking at Backbone State Park, canoeing on rivers and in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, rock-climbing and river rafting in Wisconsin, and hiking in the Rocky Mountains. Ewalu Day Camp (VBS) serves kids in congregational settings. Ewalu is a ministry of about 200 Lutheran churches in Eastern Iowa, serving people regardless of race, sex, age, religion, creed, or national origin. Fostering communities of Christian faith is our primary focus.
