Celebrating over 45 years of Christian camping in Iowa

Replacement of Walnut and Cherry Cabins

  • Expand sleeping space
    Add restrooms in each cabin
Build a "gathering space" into each cabin

Without a doubt, the most frequent complaints about the facilities at the Ewalu Main Site are about Walnut and Cherry cabins—dark, smelly (thanks to forty years of bats in the attic spaces), cramped, and without restrooms.  (Restrooms and showers are in the lower level of the lodges—an uncomfortable journey when you need the restroom in the middle of the night or when the temperatures are below freezing.)  Campers of all ages expect better.

Overnight lodging provides the greatest revenue for the camp (income with the lowest overhead).  When adults and youth are not using the camp because of inhospitable lodging spaces, the camp is not only not meeting the needs of the constituency, but also jeopardizing the financial stability of the ministry.

Improving our cabin spaces will not change the character of the camp—75% of Ewalu  summer campers will continue to sleep in teepees, covered wagons, tents and shelters.

Expansion and Renovation of Walnut and Cherry Lodges

  • Renovation of existing lodges
Remodel meeting space and add second level deck
Addition of four-bedroom lodging space with private baths
